Natureversus Nurture is a debate in psychology concerning what aspects ofbehavior stem from genetics or learned characteristics. It is said thatnature is what we think of as pre-wiring and it's influenced by geneticinheritance and biological factors and nurture is taken as the influenceof external factors after conception such as exposure due to theindividuals learning and experience. (McLeod, 2015) For this discussionwe are going to go with nature includes physiological makeup andcharacteristics, personality, and emotional tendencies that equip us aswe enter the societal world of humanity. As for nurture it is thecultural context that we encounter as we mature into adulthood. (MUSE,2018)

There are arguments that exist on both sides of this debate.For instance on the nature side the big wigs believe we are hard-wiredwhen we are born into this world and use phrases like he was born thatway. Big wigs on the nurture side say that nurturing is the mainlyresponsible for the outcome of a new baby as they journey towardsmaturity and these believers blame the environment. (MUSE, 2018) I feellike nature and nurture both play a part in how a person acts as anadult. At home children are taught morals and beliefs however when theyget around friends or other peers at school they learn how other peoplethink and are being raised and sometimes a child picks which life seemsmore interesting to them.

I watched a girl that was friends withmy daughter grow up dealing with some rough things at home. Her motherwas a drug addict and her father ended up with custody of her when shewas three. She remembers things that happened while she was with hermom. When dad got her his current wife adopted her and then she died.Dad already had a replacement step mother and neither did any nurturingat all. She didn't feel loved, the parents did drugs, and there was nogood influences at home but she turned out to be a very smart,hardworking, law abiding person. She chose decent friends at a young ageand spent time with their families in which she felt love from others.Had she not spent a lot of her time with other families she would haveturned out to be a totally different person like her brother who wasraised and dealt with the same issues. My boys came from a home wherethey were loved, well taken care of, and they were very well behavedchildren. Once they hit puberty and chose to hang out with the wrongpeople their behaviors and beliefs changed. They both ended up introuble with the courts and have been placed in residential facilitiesto change the behaviors and thinking errors that got them where theyare.

I do not agree that only nature shapes a person and I do notagree that only nurture shapes a person. After all of my experiences Ibelieve that a combination of nature and nurture is what shapes a personinto who they become and how they act.
