Consider providing reference services for a customer requesting information on the topic you have selected. Describe the customer in terms of age, gender, race/ethnicity, educational level, or other relevant demographic information. Explain how you came to your decisions.
You will also outline a plan for communicating information about the resources available. Consider national health promotion initiatives. Consider appropriate demographics in your promotion plan.
Your project
A PowerPoint presentation, video or LibGuide that includes the following:
- A script of relevant reference interview questions and responses that would help you know what resources to use in your customer's particular situation. - 5 appropriate print or electronic resources of information for your customer (use resources other than MedlinePlus in your presentation). Endeavor to find a mixture of print, free web and subscription database resources. (Make sure that you are using consumer-focused databases.) Write a brief annotation of each of the resources selected. Include a treatment of how you evaluated the resource for accuracy, authority, bias, currency and coverage. Also include a discussion of how you identified your sources and how you weeded out any inappropriate or inaccurate sources.
- A brief sample script for how you would communicate the information to your customer in a way that is sensitive,culturally appropriate, not providing medical advice (again, you may use a video, comic strip, etc. to show the script)
Submission
The presentations should be in PowerPoint, prezi, emaze (or other electronic presentation software) or video.
Projects will be graded by thoroughness and accuracy of the information provided. You will receive an evaluation by the course instructor, a peer evaluation by classmates, a partner evaluation and a self-evaluation. All four grades will be taken into account when determining the final grade for the project for each individual.
