Part1 Scenario Finally, you have a chance on your busy shift to go out and work some traffic! Suddenly, you get a call about a property damage crash down by the airport. No lights or sirens for a property damage crash, you say to yourself. Just get there safe. As you roll up to the crash, you can tell that something happened near the stop sign at the T- intersection. You get out and move toward the driver of a beautiful (well, it used to be beautiful) red Ford Mustang convertible. Unfortunately, the Mustang now has a big gash along the left rear quarter panel where it was hit by the front end of an old Chevy Impala. It appears from where the Impala ended up and where the damage is that the Ford Mustang was traveling east along the four-lane road. The Chevy Impala must have pulled into traffic at the stop sign when the collision occurred. You note an interesting detail. You see no skid marks where either vehicle should have been applying the brakes. It's time to talk to the drivers. |

Transcript of Dialog Pertaining to the Scenario Officer: Hello, Ma'am, can I get your driver's license and proof of insurance please? What happened today? Sally: Here is my driver's license, sir. I'm Sally. My Mustang is brand new. I just got it after getting married. I'm sorry but I don't have the insurance card for this vehicle. It is sitting at home on the table. I was just cruising along in my new Mustang. I saw that guy in that crummy old Impala stopped at the stop sign and then he pulled out and hit me. Officer: About what speed were you going? Sally: I was doing what I always do along here, probably about 64, which is only 9 over the speed limit. Everyone else was going at least 70 or more. Officer: OK. Don't go anywhere. I will get back with you after I talk to the other driver. Officer: Hello Sir, can I get your driver's license and proof of insurance please? What happened today? Fred: Here is my driver's license. It's only a month expired, but it's still good. It has my old address though from about a year ago. I'll write down the new address for you. I have the old beast insured through Progressive, I think. I know it's insured though. I had just stopped at this stop sign like I always do. I was planning on turning east, so I looked both ways and didn't see anybody, and so I started into the intersection when "wham!!!" That lady over there came out of nowhere. I am sure she had to have been doing 90-100 miles per hour. I never even saw her. She's gotta pay for my car. She thinks I should pay though which is ridiculous! I am feeling a little sore since I didn't have my seatbelt on, so I think I am going to sit down right over here for a minute. Officer: Thank you, sir. Don't go anywhere. I will be right back with the information from the crash for you. |
