Week 2 – Assignment: Complete a Strategic Planning Case Study in a Healthcare Setting

In Week 1, you explored the role of the healthcare manager within a health system. This week, you will explore the functions of planning, decision making, and organizing within healthcare organizations.

Strategic planning is an important and vital process for any organization. The changes of our national healthcare environment make strategic planning especially imperative for healthcare systems.

Perform a search in the NCU library for a published article describing the strategic planning process of a hospital or healthcare system. If you cannot locate a published article, you may also perform a search online, but be sure to include and properly cite the URL for your example.

Then, prepare a case study of the strategic plan. Include how it incorporates components of the strategic plan, why strategic planning was conducted, and any challenges and successes experienced, either during the planning process or after implementation. Finally, critique the strategic plan for your case study organization. Be sure to include aspects, with relevant justifications, that you feel worked and those that did not.

Support your case study with a minimum of three resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages

Your case study should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Grading Rubric

(2) Differentiated attributes of the strategic planning process relative to the case study example (2 points).

(3) Ascertained the strategic plan of the case study organization (3 points).

(4) Included a minimum of three scholarly references, with appropriate APA formatting applied to citations and paraphrasing (3 points).

Paper is 5-7 pages long not including the title and reference pages. (Total 10 points).
