I can’t really say that the grandmother was truly a villain, however she definitely had some issues and put her family in that unfortunate situation. I saw Misfit to be the religious person as well especially with his comparison of how the punishment didn’t fit the crime. Also down south being a gospel singer is a pretty big deal, you would do that if you weren’t religious. When the grandmother was crying out to Jesus I think she was just trying to say anything to save her life. The statement Misfit made about how she could have been a good woman if it had been someone there to shoot her every minute of her life, still gets me because I didn’t believe any of it. Was she really being compassionate or desperate? It makes sense what he meant by it though.
