" The United States Criminal Justice Policy".

The United States Criminal Justice system is composed of threeelements: federal and state-level law-enforcement agencies; thejudiciary; and the corrective facilities. The decision-making in andtowards this system is heavily influenced by civilian and budgetaryconsideration as serving the American populace in the interest ofjustice with the limited resources the system has, is a top priority.Due to limited funds and manpower, an elaborate system of parole andfinancial penalties compliment actual prison terms.

Through a quick web-search most criminal justice system developmentagency seem to be disseminating their information to the visitor byprominently highlighting in their websites the important role they playin creating a fair, just and efficient justice system by positivelyinfluencing decision-making. The benefit to the system is that theystress so much on a people-oriented approach. However, there is anoveremphasis on law enforcement aspect of the justice system with littlereserved for the courts and correctional service.

Forpurposes of this discussion, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ)and the Criminal Justice Foundation (CJF) were selected. NIJ is anagency of DOJ responsible of championing criminology discourse. Itstudies and reports to DOJ about criminal behavior and police response,juvenile delinquency, domestic assaults, prosecutor/s misconduct, drugviolence and unfair sentencing with the intention of crafting policyinnovations and improvements which it then recommends to DOJ(Neubauer & Fradella, 2018).

The CJF, onthe other hand, is dedicated to recommending better ways to handle thedrug problem especially to DEA (Cole, Smith &DeJong, 2018). It goes astep further by encouraging addict rehabilitation and not justprosecution. It criticizes the current system as flawed. NIJ faces thetwin problems of limited resources allocated by Congress especially inthe area of criminal research (Pound, 2018). Some of its recommendationshave not been fully implemented. CJF, on the other hand, is a lobbygroup that has had not much of an impact as the outfit would desire tohave.

In a nutshell, the tax-payer has not yet gotten his/her value formoney through NIJ research. Criminal research has not rolled back thedrug problem, police brutality and gun violence in America. Theirapproach has therefore not borne much fruit. The underlying societalproblems need a new approach. They require tighter border controls,enhanced race relations and tighter control of firearms withoutnecessary infringing on the Second Amendment.
