Goal: Based on these 3 films, Develop a strong stasis question. Begin to formulate a response to that question in preparation for the 2.1 and 2.2 essay.

This paper should begin with a question you intend to ask about the film you examined. This question, or a form of this question, will be developed in your longer, formal 2.1 and 2.2 essays. Your stasis question should consider what your film can show us about the culture that it was created for. This question should be a question at issue in our discourse community, this class. Be very careful to propose a stasis question (a question that creates a divided response).

Your essay should discuss why you think your question is important and worth addressing. Establish what is at stake when you ask your question.

Your paper should explore a possible and reasonable “yes” response and a possible and reasonable “no” response. Indicate which response you find to be more logical and well-reasoned (the response you will further develop in your 2.1 and 2.2).

You may use 1 scholarly article to further either your “yes” or “no” response. Choose a scholarly article from the UO’s Library database if you choose. If you include an article from outside our readings, you must include a brief summary (3-5 sentences) of the article you found. Successful essays will note how and why each text is helpful and how the text might be used. Please be as detailed as you can be. If you include an article, please also include a Works Cited page and a MLA citation. If you choose to as a question about a new film, please include any important contextual information and a brief summary of the plot.
