The major research paper must follow this outline:

• Overview of relevant ethics standards and requirements of accounting professionals from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Code of Professional Conduct, Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), Security Exchange Commission (SEC), and Sarbanes-Oxley.The overview should not merely be a restatement of various ethics statements / standards, but rather be a meaningful synthesis of key issues that any accounting professional should be aware of and comply with in practice of the profession of accounting. It is important to identify and discuss issues of independence/conflicts of interest etc.(5-8 pages).
• Brief analysis of the Worldcom Case (p. 101) and the Enron Case (p. 294).Focus on the various ethical and regulatory (as well as governance/auditor etc. issues) as they relate to each case.(4-6 pages).
• Summary and conclusions: For two significant ethics violations in each case, develop the facts and decisions that allowed the breach of ethics to occur,with a personal response as to how you believe the accounting professionals did or did not handle the situations correctly and how they might have handled them more effectively (or ethically).3-4 pages)

(Not simply a re-statement of the ethical standards, but a document that you might use to prepare a new accountant for the purpose ofproviding them a fairly comprehensive orientation about each of the relevant ethical and legal issues revealed in each of the key areas listed above.Include governance issues that might relate relationships between the board of directors of a public company and an auditor that you deem important.)
