In light of the play you have now watched, the articles you have read, your research and your own general awareness and knowledge of the state of our national discourse with respect to LGBT issues:

1. Do you feel that it has been a positive 15 to 20 years for Gay and Lesbian issues, their families and the way we feel about them?

Yes, I feel that it has been a positive 15 to 20 years for Gay and Lesbian issues, their families and the way we feel about them. I can’t say that all people thinks positively towards LGBT, but I can say they people are progressing everyday.

2. Do you feel that we have moved in a positive way as a nation since the Mathew Shepard event in 1998? Why or why not?

I believe we have moved in a positive way as a nation since the Mathew Shepard event in 1998. The Mathew Shepard event made the America aware of LGBT more seriously. When I was in elementary school, it was a bad thing for someone to be a gay or lesbian. If someone comes out as a gay or lesbian, most of people didn’t accept it and said that person is having a mental illness in front of others. But now, it’s rare to find people who says those kind of statements in front of others. They might still think the same in their mind, but our positive moves toward LGBT made them unable to say it out loud.

3. How and why do you believe we have changed so quickly in our society toward the LGBT community?

I think the society have changed so quickly toward the LGBT community because of the arts and entertainments. When I was a little kid, I have never seen television shows or movies with LGBT characters. But as I was growing up, I started to see some television shows and movies with LGBT characters. There was a movie called “King and the Clown” in South Korea which was released in 2007. The movie wasn’t about LGBT but there was a scene when the King and a male Clown were kissing. I do remember that movie was being harshly criticized by the Christians and people who are against homosexuality. But regardless of some harsh and bitter criticisms, a lot of audience loved the movie and it has won several famous film awards in South Korea. I believe that movie made a starting point for South Korea’s society to accept LGBT more positively.

4. Have you seen any change in your own life with how you feel or behave toward Gay and Lesbian individuals?

I have not seen any change in my own life with how I feel or behave toward Gay and Lesbian individuals. Since I was a kid, I didn’t really care if a boy likes other boy or a girl likes other girl. It’s just who they are and I am not the one to think if they are normal or abnormal. I didn’t and still don’t think that being a gay or lesbian is a wrong thing. My parents always told me that everyone has equal rights, and we shouldn’t judge others.

5. Would you watch a play or view a film or television that highlights LGBT themes and values? Why or why not?

Yes, why not. If it gives me a better understanding of LGBT, then I would watch it and even recommend it to my friends.
