This week we address the concept of women integrating themselves into Western American society during the late Nineteenth Century. When examined further we are able to conjure our own opinions about how favorable this transition was for these women. There are two authors responsible for this weeks reading on women in the Great Plains. Our first Author is a lady named Glenda Riley and she believes women were in favor of this transition towards new western land. Glenda brings up many valid points in her arguments such as strong support networks the women created to help support one and other during their transition. The second author goes by the name of Christine Stansell and she views the women's transition towards western land in a negative light. She feels the women were ripped from their home land and endured lonely lives on the open plains. From my view point women gained many things from the American West and the lifestyle that was associated with it. These women were no longer bound to the typical roles of European Women and their domestic only duties. Now that these women were free in the American West they started doing more than ever thought possible before. Some women were working paid jobs outside of their homes and even becoming politically active. Before this women were not allowed to participate in things such as politics. Many of these women faced opposition from others due to their new found independence. Subsequently they turned to each other and created support groups to help other women through the difficult transitional period. This new found sense of independence was the positive change women needed. Adapting to this new environment became even easier once they bound together for strength and moral s
