I do not believe that it is wrong for Christians to use their religious affiliations to promote their businesses. One of the topics discussed in our textbook is faith integration. This is “the process of combining Christian faith and religious experience with the rest of our lives…” (Cafferky, 2012). Our Christian faith impacts every part of our lives, and this includes our professional businesses. One important question that a manager or owner of a business should ask themselves is “What do effective managers do differently compared with ineffective managers?” (2012). One of the answers to this question is effective partnerships and affiliations. Someone who is striving to run their business through a Christian perspective will affiliate with others who believe the same and have the same values. Now to be clear, I do not believe that places such as Church are appropriate for promoting one’s business looking for a profit. However, I do not think there is anything wrong with fellow Christians affiliating with one another, promoting each other’s businesses. Psalm 112:5 tells us that “Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice” (NIV). These principles will always be vital to the success of a Christian business, and I understand an owner or manager wanted to be around and promote to those who believe the same. Having a strong sense of ethics and how to promote is important when running a business, and Christian ethics have played an important role in business for many years (Melé & Fontrodona, 2016). The more we attempt to push Christianity out of our professional lives and affiliations the more difficult it will become to be virtuous in our managing of our businesses. When it is said and done, we must be careful that we are not exploiting our Christian affiliations but involving our Christian brothers and sisters in our businesses is important.
