Writing the paper with your own words.

To get a good grade on this assignment, you must complete all three sections. For the first section, answer the question: What is an academic journal? What aredifferent types? What makes them different than newspapers, magazines, or websites? Include the peer review process and why this makes such ajournal more credible than general articles found on the web.

After you fully answer these questions (about one page), find five articles from a peer-reviewed scholarly journal (go the library website, choose databases,select Ebsco, and choose the Communication, Mass Media complete database. Check the box for peer-review and for full text available. Then you cansearch for peer-reviewed research on the topic "do people use the media to manage their mood? Good search terms might include mood managementand media. and selective exposure and media. If you can't find anything with those, change media to television or music. Then, create an annotatedbibliography of five articles. Make sure to use the APA style for your annotations. Use only peer-reviewed, scholarly journals in your bibliography. Each ofthe five annotations must include the 1) Research Question posed in the article, 2) identify the participants and sample procedure used, 3) a description ofthe research method utilized in each study including the variables they measured and 4) what they found or concluded. Do not just copy and paste theabstract of the article as your annotation. Doing so constitutes plagiarism and you will receive an F on the paper.

The third section of the paper will contain a short discussion as to whether all of your annotations describe research which supports the notion that peopleuse the media to control their moods, or whether it refutes this premise or if there is no consistent information in your five studies to make a determination.This is simply a brief summary of the overall consistency or lack thereof across all five of your articles.

Make sure to read the entire article. Do not just summarize the abstract or plagiarize parts of the article. Since this is a research class, you should focus,your annotations (summaries) on A. What was their research question or hypothesis (this is usually found right before the method section of the paper; B.Briefly describe the research participants and the method they used to test their hypothesis (found in the method section); C. What did they find? (found inthe summary and conclusion sections of the paper).
