I think that this approach to dreams is interesting. It is much different than Freudian work in the way that it is the client giving meaning to their dream rather than the therapist interpreting it, and in that the client recounts the dream as if he or she were experiencing it right now (Corey, p. 217). I think this gives great insight into how the client is feeling about themselves, or a situation, in the present moment. I also think it allows the client to explore, deeper, the hidden messages in their own dreams that they may not be aware of at face value. At first, I thought the idea of having the client act as if they were each part of their dream was odd, but I think that it is a good technique in pulling important information from the client. It really forces the client to think about each aspect of their dream, and how that made them feel. I see this being really beneficial because many times, we are not fully aware of how we are impacted by different events, or people, in our lives, and these situations and conflicts can play out in our dreams. This technique does a lot of exploring not only the dream itself, but the clients mind and emotions in the present moment.
