Since we live in a state that is in a constant drought it seems, I wanted to learn more about the financing and funding for water and water projects. I figured tons of money has to be spent every year on transferring and moving water throughout California, projects towards irrigating water better, and even the money we spend on wasted water. I saw an article where an agency decided to deny funding for one of Jerry Brown's water projects to install two Delta tunnels. They felt as if the plan was too risky. I didn't look into the details really of everything that happened because all that grabbed my attention was the $11 BILLION it was going to take just to fund ONE tunnel. Where in the world have we come up with the $11 billion to fund this? I am glad the agency felt like it was too risky. As a taxpayer, I would hate that my tax money is going to a project that was going to cost roughly $22 billion and it potentially not work out. Seems like a risk to me too. The tunnels were suppose to be able to pump gallons into Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley without harming the eco system. However, many said the tunnels may actually not only harm the ecosystem but also local water users. I know there is always going to be pros and cons on any type of project. I just hope that agencies are more aware of how much these projects cost and really examine every detail before blowing through billions of dollars that, in my opinion, California doesn't have. I believe my social network helps to perpetuate social inequality in a few ways. My social network is made up of firefighters, EMTs, and nurses, most of whom are the same race as I am. When we hear of new job opportunities, we tell one another, which in return, fills these jobs with people of the same race with the same training. I do not believe it is a bad thing, only because we have the training necessary for these job opportunities while outsiders do not.

Breaking the cycle of social inequality seems to be something that isn’t too easy. Getting a job somewhere is often difficult because of the social networks that people have. Just like I do, I refer people who I know. Breaking this cycle would involve employers not allowing current employees to refer friends. This could give outsiders a chance at employment. I believe we can create diversity on our social networks by meeting new people, going to new events, and letting others who aren’t the same as you, into your groups.
