A considerable part of educational technology research is field work. As an example, read Anderson’s field work report located in the Learning Resources. This module’s Field Report activity provides an opportunity for you to refine your field work skills. Field work tends to be an enjoyable activity because it affords you the opportunity to engage, experiment, and play with new tools and discover how they can be used in your own educational practice. It also positions you to make well-considered recommendations based on authentic experience.

Consider your passion or main interest in educational technology. For the Field Report, you will collaborate with classmates who share your passion or main interest in a specific innovative technology trend.

To prepare for your Field Report, download the document named Technology Innovation Field Report from this module’s Learning Resource page. Complete Part 1 by doing the following:

Search the New Media Consortium Horizon Project website to view the most recent Horizon Report’s 6 Innovations that are being projected to hit critical mass in the next five years. You will find that there are two innovations projected to hit critical mass in 1 year, two in 3 years, and two in 5 years. Select one of the six technological innovation trends you would like to explore to further your professional practice. You will use this innovation for your Field Report. Be sure to accurately cite and reference the Horizon Report that you use in your Field Report using APA formatting.
