Here is what I need.

GROUP OBSERVATION ASSIGNMENT–This is a 3-4 page paper based on your observation. You may attend an open self-help group meeting such as AA, OA, GA, Al-Anon, SMART Recovery, etc., and write a paper reflecting your experience there. How did your experience differ from your expectations? What therapeutic factors did you observe happening? What could you tell about the relationship between members? What was your subjective experience? How was the meeting similar and/or different than group therapy?

Address the following in your paper:

A.) What happened during the meeting? Did the proceedings of the meeting seem to be meeting the group’s stated or implied goals?

B.) What was the attitude of members toward one another?

C.) Did the group provide members with advice on how to address their problems? How did the members appear to be helping each other? Do you think that the group was successful? How so?

D.) How did it feel to be a part of this group, albeit an observer? Did you enjoy the experience or was it uncomfortable for you? How do you understand your experience?

3.) Did any of the therapeutic factors described by Yalom seem to be in operation at the meeting?

4.) After having attended the meeting, do you feel that you might be more comfortable recommending twelve-step groups to people you work with? Why or why not?

5.) Did you observe any of the qualities cited by Duhigg (2012)?

6.) Overall, what meaning or conclusions can you draw from your experience?
