Question Description

I need help writing my DARA report. My thesis statement is "How were college students affected by the 2008 recession and what we can implement to minimize future damages?". I have already picked out some of the research needed. Based on this, I need to write a 4 page essay that meets all the requirements below:

Discipline Awareness and Rhetorical Analysis Report, 4 pages,

Instructions Notes: For the report, I expect you to use peer-reviewed articles and trade publications. Newspapers, blogs, and magazine articles are not appropriate. Use APA style for citations; use genre conventions of the informational report

Part 1: Methods, methodologies, and areas of study. In this section of the report, you will consider and answer the following questions:

1. What are the methodologies and methods commonly used by scholars to gather data in your field? Make a list with brief descriptions and specific examples (3-4 examples)

2. Create a list of topics being discussed in your field (3-4 entries). Briefly discuss each topic and state which topics you find most interesting.

3. Based on the articles you used to answer questions 1 and 2, how are the methods and methodologies in use by your discipline informing the topics being studied in the field? How are the topics being studied driving the choice of methods and methodologies in the field?

Part 2: Scholars and their publications. In this section of the report, answer the following questions:

1. Based on your research on topics of interest, identify scholars that research those topics. List 3-4 of the scholars and very briefly describe their general research areas.

2. Choose one scholar to focus on. Write a list of 3-4 major publications and presentations created by the scholar. The publications might appear in scholarly or professional (trade) journals and conference proceedings.

a. What are some of the differences between publications? How are the audiences for each publication different from each other?

b. To what extent has the scholar’s research interest changed over time?

c. Looking at the reference pages in the articles, or/and the citation link in Google Scholar, briefly describe who is in “conversation” with this scholar (who is citing the scholar and who the scholar is citing)?

d. Briefly discuss how the scholar is engaging in scholarly conversation with other scholars. For this question you will have to select several sources the scholar cites in one article and see what they have written and how what they have written connects to the writing of your main scholar. You are looking for connections between scholars’ research interests by mapping how scholars cite each other in their writing.

Part 3: Rhetorical analysis: academic and public writing In this last section of the report, choose a scholar from the list above, a topic the scholar researchers, and a scholarly article or conference proceeding the scholar has published. Read the scholarly article and answer the following questions, giving specific examples:

1. Who is the audience for the article?

How do you know?

2. What language is used to explain theories, methods and findings? Formal, informal? How is the article organized? What does the language and the organization of the article tell you about the discourse community the audience belongs to?

3. What seem to be some of the discourse conventions the author adheres to in the article?

4. How does the author establish credibility?

Now, choose an article in a popular magazine or newspaper that discusses the same or similar topic as the scholar. Answer the following questions, giving specific examples:

Finally, briefly compare the two audiences, based on the way the article is written, organized, distributed, and presented. How would the audience gain access to each article? What is the purpose of each publication platform? How are the audiences similar? Different?
