Evolution and Intelligent Design

One of the more recent, ongoing scientific theory conflicts is that of evolution. Some argue that evolution conflicts with religious beliefs as it pertains to the origin of life. This conflict has in turn carried over to public education. Some religious leaders have argued that alongside evolution, ideas like intelligent design (ID) should also be taught within science classrooms in public schools. In Seminar you will explore the differences between the evidence supporting evolution and the evidence used to support ID. Learn more in the course readings, online and at the Library. Come to Seminar prepared to discuss the following questions:

1. What is the theory of evolution?
2. What are the various forms of evidence for evolution? What technologies were used to find and understand this evidence?
3. What is intelligent design?
4. What are the various forms of evidence for intelligent design? What technologies were used to find and understand this evidence?
5. What are two similarities and two differences between the evidence for evolution and intelligent design?
6. How has the discovery of DNA and the biotechnologies developed from its discovery influenced the study of evolution and intelligent design?

Option 1- Attend Seminar:

Participate in a synchronous Seminar. The School of General Education’s Science Department Seminars are meant to be an interactive period between students and instructor – not a lecture period.
