Depending on how you handle the conflicts that arise in your job, employees will either come to welcome you as a leader, or become wary of dealing with you if they learn that you are someone who does not do a good job in resolving difficult situations. This can ultimately affect your reputation and career, so you must be prepared to actively assist with or intervene in the conflict at any time to keep your employees or teams working well. This preparedness begins with the clear understanding of how to negotiate a conflict, and how the types of power play into the negotiation.

1. Research and summarize negotiation practices and procedures, as they best relate to your current or intended professional setting.
2. Evaluate the effect of the types of power on the negotiation process, and give an example of how each type of power can affect the process.
3. Articulate the key skills that a negotiator should possess and exhibit.
