Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to the relationship between human physiology and pathology at work in industrial environment. Students will gain basic understanding on human body mechanics, causes of injury at workplaces, ergonomics design of workstations and physical environment, and the consequences in human life.

This course satisfies the NSC 1 requirement for general education.

Course Objectives

• Verbalize the definitions of ergonomics and its areas of application in the work system.
• Know the brief history of ergonomics and fundamentals of modern ergonomics.
• Understand the basics of body mechanics and the anthropometric principles in workspace and equipment design.
• Understand the fundamental aspects of standing, sitting, and performing repetitive tasks and manual handling tasks that related to ergonomics design.
• Demonstrate the fundamentals of human thermoregulation that related to heat, cold, and the design of physical environment.
• Demonstrate the ergonomics factors related to vision, light, lighting, hearing, sound, noise, and vibration and the design of physical environment.
• Understand the fundamentals of human-computer interaction and human-machine interaction.
• Demonstrate the understanding of organizational and social aspects of ergonomics.
