In their research, Gaytan and McEwen (2007) identified several online assessment strategies that were perceived as effective by faculty and students. They concluded that regardless of which specific strategies are used, “online instruction and assessment must balance the requirements of technology, delivery, pedagogy, learning styles, and learning outcomes” (pg. 130).
After reading the article and this week’s chapter readings, please select one assessment strategy to research for this week’s discussion. Please share at least one article or Web resource in support of your answers.
Describe the assessment strategy you chose and answer the following questions:
- What are the pros and cons of using this assessment strategy in an online or hybrid course?
- Is there a certain curricular area or course outcome for which this strategy would be more (or less) effective than others? Please explain your answer.
- How would you use this assessment strategy in the online course that you are designing for your course project and how does it balance the technology, delivery, pedagogy, learning styles, and learning outcomes of your course? Please be specific.
