You’ve learned how important groups, roles, statuses, and socialnetworks are in the structure of society. In this assignment, you’lldemonstrate what you’ve learned by identifying and describingexamples from your own life. You will also have a chanceto practice some smart strategies for managing your digitalpresence in your own “online” social networks.

: Complete both parts of the assignment by followingthe instructions below.PART A: YOUR STATUS SET, ROLES, AND ROLE PROBLEMS1) Status Set:a) List a status set that includes at least fivestatuses that you currently have.• Remember: A status is simply a position youfill in society. It may be a job title, but it couldalso include a position you fill within a familyor a community. For more information,review Section 4.3 in your webtext.2b) Label each status in your status set as ascribed,achieved, or master.• Remember: An ascribed status is one you’reborn with and have no control over. Anachieved status is reached through your ownefforts or simply good or bad luck. A masterstatus is so important that it overrides yourother statuses. For more information, reviewSection 4.3 in your webtext.2) Roles:a) Choose one status from your status set.b) Describe the role that is associated with thestatus.c) Describe how you learned that role.• Remember: A role is the behavior expectedof someone with a certain status.

3) Role Conflict:a) Choose two statuses from your status set.b) Describe a time when you experienced a conflictbecause of the demands of your two differentroles associated with those statuses.c) List at least two different ways you could haveresolved the conflict. For example, could youask someone for help? Or could you go online toresearch a possible solution?d) Describe the approach you took to resolve theconflict. What was the result? Would you dothings differently next time?

3PART B: SOCIAL NETWORKS AND POSITIVE IMPRESSIONS1) Social Networks:A social network includes all of the relationships thatlink you to other people and groups. Through socialnetworks, you can connect with people who may beable to offer you valuable advice, introductions, or opportunities.a) Identify an area of interest that you would liketo pursue, either professionally or personally. Itcould be a job or industry, a volunteer position, ora social group.• Examples: accounting, volunteering with theelderly, joining a book clubb) Identify and describe three people in your socialnetwork (people you know personally) whohave a connection, or might know someoneconnected to your area of interest.

These threepeople may be work colleagues, family members,or close friends.• Remember: For privacy reasons, do not listtheir names in this assignment. Instead,identify them as Person A, B, and C.c) For each person, write a brief description of whyyou selected them, and how they are connectedto your area of interest.d) Identify the person who you think is the bestcontact for you to communicate with aboutyour area of interest.
