Biblical Worldview

A biblical worldview is based solely on the word of God. When you believe the Bible in its entirety, then you allow it to be the foundation of everything you say and do. “Well-meaning Christians reach different conclusions depending on the way they choose to interpret and use the Bible” (Graham, 2009, p.11). Furthermore, others believe that the Bible addresses only spiritual issues and issues of faith, while science deals with issues of reason. The Bible should be used to build a foundation and framework for informing and directing our inquiries into any subject (Graham, 2009, p.12). We are all made in the image of God.

Christian Philosophy of Education

The Development of a Biblical Worldview is the goal of Christian Education. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and perfect and acceptable” (Romans 12:2). The Bible is the primary source for all of learning. Donovan Graham mentioned that “as God spoke, all things entered a relationship with each other and were given purpose, a way in which they were to operate, a function, a normative “order,” if you will” (p.21). Most of all Christian schools have similar philosophy statements that speak of the desire to be Christ-centered in all dimension of the educational endeavor.

Implications for Educational Practice

One of the biggest implications for educational practice is that “Knowing carries responsibility”. According to Graham (2009) “True knowledge involves an understanding of information, the implications of that information, and a response to both. Knowing is formed in part by doing something, not just intellectually completing ideas and information” (p. 190). The structure that Christian schools form their curriculum around seem to obstruct the students in their attempts to deal with knowledge as an integrated whole. Christian schools teach subjects in disconnected, fragmented ways, often leading only to an unrelated set of facts to be remembered for few useful purposes.
