Your original response to the Discussion topic should be at least 350 words and should reflect the fact that you have completed the Reading and activities. Use your words wisely so that the posting has substance and includes examples and explanations. Best practice is to include citations and a reference list.

In Chapters 6 and 7 you examined diversity, ethics, and the values of the human service profession and clients. You also read of the importance of increasing your knowledge base and skills concerning diverse populations as it pertains to oppression, privilege, and social inequality. Human service professionals should have positive beliefs about people. Acknowledging what you might believe is important for the client may not be what the client wishes; it is imperative that you as the human service professional understand the client’s cultural norms and apply appropriate strategies to assist the client. As a human service professional you will find yourself engaged in working relationships with diverse populations, so it becomes necessary to understand both your and the client’s cultural norms. Please discuss the following:

• How significant is it for you to have an understanding of diverse populations?
• What strategies will you consider when working with oppressed populations?
• How might you maintain your values to achieve a successful helping relationship with your client?

Please remember to cite your work using APA format when referencing from the text or outside resources.
