The book excerpt by Brachman (2009) in this week’s Learning Resources should be particularly helpful. In their discussion of methods and procedures used in public health surveillance, these authors provide a good review of some existing secondary data sources, as well as some of the best practices associated with the analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of surveillance data. While you may not be engaging in surveillance data research for your doctoral study, take a close look at the many factors that go into surveillance research. From selecting the unit of interest (population) to reporting surveillance findings to appropriate stakeholders, each step sheds light on the type(s) of data analysis needed.
As you work on selecting the statistical procedures you will use for analysis of the secondary data you have selected, you will need to keep in mind any limitations inherent in the dataset. Also, central to your analysis plan will be whether the analysis fully answers the research question(s).

- Consider the statistical procedures that you will use for analysis of the data set you selected in this week’s Discussion and the research question you developed in the Week 3 Assignment.
