The major writing assignment in the course is a case study. This case study project will require students to explore and identify approaches to deal with multiple communication problems that can arise in the healthcare setting.

Specifically, students will need to create a case study of approximately three to five pages (double spaced) in which they address a problem related to communication skills, the community and environment, and/or patients’ perspectives in a healthcare setting. The topic/issue is open, but students should consider content covered in the modules of this course when deciding what topics or issues might be appropriate to study. Examples of general topics are listed below.

While drafting the assignment, students should utilize a clear and coherent structure. After deciding on a real or hypothetical issue to address for the paper, students should clearly identify background information pertaining to the issue, address the focal problem at hand, and identify at least three well-reasoned solutions to deal with the issue. Case studies should also provide justification to support each of the proposed solutions.

In total, at least five credible sources should be used to support the background and/or justify proposed solutions. Any formally accepted reference format would be appropriate for this assignment. Please make sure all in-text and full-length references are included.
