Overview: This assignment asks you to write annotated bibliography entries for 3 articles related to social issues explored in the poetry we are reading in class. One article should be one that we have read together as a class; one should be an article not included in a weekly Reading Packet that you find in the “Article Resource Bank for Research Paper” Canvas module; and one should be an article that you have found through your own research.

Purpose:

1. Demonstrate your ability to research, summarize, and evaluate articles.
2. Demonstrate your ability to make critical connections between articles, contemporary social issues, and literature.
3. Practice following MLA citation conventions.

Audience: Your audience is your instructor. That means your audience expects college-level academic writing that follows the guidelines of the assignment and is largely free of grammatical errors. Your audience will be familiar with the articles and poems available through our class Canvas page, and will expect that you additionally supply a relevant and credible article through your own research.

Content Requirements:

You will write 3 annotated bibliography entries for this assignment. Each entry must have 3 components:

1. Proper MLA citation. A full MLA “Works Cited” listing should be the first part of each annotated bibliography entry. (Links to an external sitLinks to an external sIf you use an online citation generator, double-check it against these resources.
2. Brief article summary. This should be between 3-5 sentences long. A summary is an objective overview of the article’s contents. It should NOT include your opinion, your reactions, or references to other sources. It should ONLY capture the main ideas from the article.
3. Brief article evaluation. This should be ~5-10 sentences long (a bit longer than your summary). You should answer the following questions in your evaluation:
4. How does the article connect to the poems we’ve read in class? Which poems does it connect with?
5. Would this article be useful for inclusion in a research paper about how poetry connects to modern social issues?
6. What facts, ideas, or quotations would be useful? What questions does the article raise about the social issues it addresses?
