Discuss the objectives thoroughly;

*Objectives were:

1. Electronic health records (EHRs) are not merely electronic records but have very broad functionalities. Discuss at least 3 major functionalities of EHRs. Analyze how each of these functionalities may offer decision support and improve workflow in the clinics.

2. Discuss the key pieces of legislation that have important influences on health information technology (IT) policies. Analyze:

Why these laws and regulations are needed;

How they have shaped the current health IT ecosystem; and

The trends and challenges in the development of health IT policies.

Summarize and review what you have learned;

Evaluate how you have met the objectives;

Discuss potential improvements and future studies; and

Support your presentation with references.

3. Analyze the potential roles of:

Chief Information Officer (CIO);

Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO);

Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO); and

Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO).

Discuss:

Why these roles are important; and

How they can provide the leadership to support the application of health IT systems.

5. An important technical challenge is the development of health information technologies (IT) for patient-centered care. Discuss how the novel services such as wearable devices and cloud platforms may provide patient empowerment and individualized guidelines for next generation wellness. Discuss at least 3 of such services in detail. Relate to your own experience and provide real-world examples.

6. Discuss the implementation processes of health information technology (IT) systems:

Discuss the lifecycles of the IT, relate to real-world examples or your specific setting;

Analyze the barriers, challenges, and potential solutions in these processes; and

Identify the areas that need improvements and make suggestions.
