The text (pp. 8-19) discusses six different perspectives in psychology and how each can attempt to explain a problem from a different angle. For this assignment you are going to think about how the different perspectives in psychology might try to understand a specific behavior.

1. Pick one of the following behaviors to analyze:

• Depression
• Love
• Anger

2. For each of the six perspectives in psychology write a brief explanation of the perspective and then describe how it might try to understand the behavior you chose. The six perspectives are:

1) psychoanalytic
2) humanistic
3) behaviorism
4) cognitive
5) behavioral and cognitive neuroscience
6) cultural

Follow the Written Assignment Guidelines (see Written Assignment Guidelines tab) in this and all other assignments in this course; meaning complete sentences and paragraphs. Putting things in a list or chart is not acceptable.

3. Write your essay in a word processing program and save the essay to your computer as a .doc or .docx document. This is the format we will use for most essays in this course.

Purpose
This assignment gives you practice applying the psychological perspectives that you are learning to explain human behavior. Upon completion, you should be able to describe the major perspectives in psychology.

Grading
This assignment is worth 20 points toward your course grade and is due by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday night. Late assignments will lose points. I will grade it on how well you explained and provided an example of each perspective and followed the Written Assignment Guidelines.
