Hi, Professor Erhart,

One specific time that comes to mind is when I was working for one of the largest big box store in the country. I was two (2) years into my service and I was very comfortable with my abilities as a sales associate. I had already been promoted to several departments and I was excelling at a speed that was comfortable for me. One day they had an open position of a department manager and I decided that I wanted to apply for it. My manager believed that I could do it so, she wanted me to start working the morning shift from seven to three and I was very excited and agreed to the new schedule. At the time I had a not so new car most of the time I would drive to the transit station and ride the train to work. This particular morning I decided to take the car all the way to work. It was cold and damp from raining and I smelt something burning and decided to pull into a McDonalds Parking lot to check the problem out.

I checked the problem and it was the wires I really had to come up with a plan quickly I called the job and explained to my manager what had happened she was understanding and told me to take the rest of the day off. Now, this where I had to really stay calm and think about how I was going to pull this goal off. I had to come up with a plan that would be conducive to my new schedule. I had no money on hand or in the bank my credit was bad so I thought. I called around to friends and family stating I need a car I must get this promotion and If I can't get to work at these hours I would not have a chance of obtaining the position. I thought that I didn't have any options then I thought to call someone to come and buy the car for cash and that gave me a couple of hundred dollars. I called my daughter and said please come and take me to get a car. When we got to the dealer the sales person checked my credit and said I would need a co-signer and immediately looked at my daughter and she said yes. The next day I went to work on time. Soon after that, I got a new job which is my current position with my current company making a lot more money than before.

In response to week 7 discussion:

My answer to the interviewer question is: in one incident I used critical thinking strategies by responding to an Internet service telemarketer who stopped me at a mall and claimed that her company has better offers, services, and deals than other competitors, the telemarketer supported her claim with stats form some website. I did not take her claims for granted, and instead, I went and did research on her company and other competing companies that offer similar services, deals, offers, etc. I found out that the claims were false and that the stats website is an advertisement website for the telemarketer company. The site wasn't credible because it had no evidence of its stats claims and had no credible authority that support such stats. By using critical thinking, I made the right choice of not falling for commercial persuasion technique.
