Read the attached file about the Military-Industrial Complex. The engage your classmates in a discussion about the role the MIC plays in our economy and our history, including present day politics. In your Discussion, respond to these two questions:

1) How do the elements of the MIC (see the triangle diagram) combine to influence national policy?

2) How does the focus on war interfere with our nation's ability to deal with other important problems, such as poverty, race relations, and fairness in elections?

Read carefully the sections in Chapters 24 and 25 about Martin Luther King, Jr., Birmingham, and the other sections on civil rights in these chapters. Following the guidelines below, have a Discussion with your classmates built around these two questions:

1) How did Dr. King and these events represent cooperation among black and white Americans?

2) What role did Presidents Kennedy and Johnson have in supporting King and the civil rights movement?
