Project grading criteria / Rubric:

This is the first part of the project which requires to use descriptive statistics techniques coveredin chapters 2 and 3. This part is worth 65 points and will be graded based on 2 categories:calculations and conclusions. You should submit an Excel file with your calculations and Wordfile with answers to the questions.

Calculations category measures your ability to construct charts and graphs and calculatenumerical measures. You can earn up to 30 points in the category.

Conclusions category grades your ability to understand data, select appropriate charts andmeasures, interpret the results given in form of charts and numerical measures. This category isworth 35 points.

Dataset description:

A company that employs over 1,000 people wants to know how satisfied the employees at work.The dataset contains information about employees of the company and their job satisfaction. Theinformation includes gender, age, and salary of the employees. The employees were asked torank their salaries as Low, Medium, or High. Also, the employees answered 3 other questions:

1. How meaningful is your work?
2. How many opportunities do you have to get promoted where you work?
3. Are you satisfied with your job?

They had to choose one of the five options: “Very positive” (5 points), “Positive” (4 points),“Neutral” (3 points), “Negative” (2 points), and “Very negative” (1 points).

This dataset is used by the top management of the company to analyze job satisfaction. Please,answer the questions below based on the information provided. If some of required informationis not given to you, you can/should make an assumption.

Question:

The goal of this part of the project is to learn how to use descriptive statistics to summarizeinformation and draw conclusions. Using the given dataset, answer the following questions:

1. Is it a sample or a population?
2. Is it time series or cross-sectional data?
3. What are elements, variables, and observations in the dataset?
4. Define a type of each variable in the dataset (ordinal, nominal, interval or ratio).
5. Choose one qualitative variable from your dataset and construct a chart (anyoneappropriate) to summarize information about the variable. Describe what you see on thechart (2-3 sentences/points).
6. Choose one quantitative variable from your dataset and construct a chart (anyoneappropriate) to summarize information about the variable. Describe what you see on thechart (2-3 sentences/points).
7. Choose another variable (variables used in questions 5 and 6 CANNOT be used) fromyour dataset and calculate 2 numerical measures to summarize information about thevariable. Discuss the results and why this measures were used? (2-3 sentences/points).
8. Choose any 2 variables (can be previously used) from your dataset and analyzerelationship between variables (use appropriate forms of descriptive statistics; charts,numerical measures, etc.). Are these variables related? Is the relationship linear? Is therelationship strong or weak?
