Based on what you have learned, use simple materials, like newspaper or cardboard, to create a model of a bone that includes some of the parts and defining characteristics of bone tissue. You will use your model to demonstrate a function that is possible based on the characteristic/s represented in your bone. Examples of anatomy that you may want to include and relate to bone function are:

compact and spongy bone (cells that make up this tissue)

structures inside the bone (Haversian canal, canaliculi, Volkmann's canal, blood vessels)

structures on the outside of the bone (periosteum)

Draw a sketch of the bone design, then create your model. Once your model is created, experiment with its effectiveness by modeling a function that would typically be performed by that bone in the human body. For additional help, view the student example.

Create a structure that will bear the weight of a textbook (attempt to describe what happens or photograph).

Create a structure that will protect something soft (attempt to describe what happens or photograph).

Create a structure that allows movement (attempt to describe what happens or photograph).
