Criminal Justice policy has come to be more dependent on evidence-based evaluation. The reason for this is that evaluation of data gives us solid evidence to prove its effectiveness. With this type of factual information it can be determined if a policy has positive or negative results. Researchers have adopted scientific methods which makes the process more reliable.

In the more recent years researchers and practitioners have come together to better address the issues at hand in the criminal justice system. With this there has become an improvement in understanding, which allows for opportunity and growth. One cannot be done effectively without the other. This is the best way to solve public issues. An example of this is “the rational model” where policy makers solve what seems to be logical problems in society and researchers than provide analysis and evaluations to see the real impact of these policies (Stone, 2001).

Accountability plays a very important role in society and the outcomes in policy. For instance, in the more recent years police body cameras have played a huge role in hoping to reduce police misconduct. Regardless if this deters police from inappropriate acts it still holds police accountable. Some may argue that a camera does not tell the whole story, but it still keeps a record if it is needed for further evaluation.

Policy makers work with researchers, groups and programs to gather feedback, data, and opinions on issues facing citizens. Other times policy makers can be influenced by parties with high influence with monetary value.

Evaluation is the action of observing and determining value of a certain subject, and comparing it to a standard. As opposed to an assessment, which determines effectiveness.
