According to Romans 2:4 (King James Version) [KJV] "Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindess is intended to lead you to repentance? When referring to sin in this verse reminds me of how guilty we should all feel when we sin while learning to bask in God's goodness which can lead to repentance from our sins. The more we know of God's goodness, the less we are inclined to sin against him. According to Luke 6:28 (KJV) "Bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you." The difference is in whatever circumstances sin has you in, God knows and cares for your life and wants us to sin no more.
Bradley (2012) claims, "In truth, however, retribution has no built-in tendency toward severity. This arises from the fact that retribution has no built-in tendency toward severity. Secondly the fact that retribution is justification for punishment and not a theory about substantive criminal law"(p.2). Preventing future crimes takes a willingness upon that individual not to sin again, however should lead men to repent of their sins, and so to ask for forgiveness from God. It clearly states that the appointed have certain duties handed down from God, to punish criminals. Hirby (2012) states, "Retribution is at the heart of just about all judicial systems that deal with law and order. Retribution can be considered a susceptible principle in regards to ranging within doctrines from "an eye for an eye" to "the Golden Rule"(p.3) The only thing that separates them is how they decide to exercise their free will to either break the law and sin against God or not.
