1.In the United States policy making originates from several sources such as public opinion, the President, and special interest groups. The first step, policy formulation begins with the federal government. "Policy formulation refers to the selection of a health problem as a policy target" (Shi, 2014). An example of a policy target could be something to do with the size and function of infant car seats. Once a health target has been introduced to Congress it then goes through the normal process a law goes through to be passed. If Congress passes the bill, and then the President signs it, it then becomes a law.

2. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is part of the federal government and was established in 1976 with the effort of fighting waste, abuse and fraud in Medicare,

Medicaid and an additional 100 Human and Health Service programs. The OIG is focused on protecting the integrity of the Department of Health and Humans Services programs where the health and welfare of all program recipients is crucial. A large portion of the OIG's resources focuses on providing supervision of Medicare and Medicaid programs, which represent a substantial portion of the federal budget and direct impacts the country's most defenseless citizens. OIG's supervision also extends to additional programs such as the National Institute of Health, Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
