In the coal mine there are different cultures and definitely a lot of different background. The biggest difference between most of the coal miners is the educational background. There are guys that didn't graduate high school to guys that have bachelors degrees and some that have engineering degrees. Everyone plays their part in most things. Some of the most intelligent people underground that I have met barely passed high school. They don't have the book smarts but they have what some people lack and that is common sense and the problem solving skills that comes with the common sense. In our work environment, common sense goes a long way. The difference in backgrounds, that also include electricians and mechanics, is the way that a coal mine operates, with all of the difference diesel machines and hydraulic motors and operations that the underground machines have, those backgrounds have their place in repair departments underground. The Engineers are the people that crunch the numbers and make the numbers count and possible by making the maps and setting the areas that are needed to make the coal mine work. The guys with the other degrees also have their place by adding some different views on solving problems or messes that get created by mother nature. All of these elements added together and operating with good communication, make the coal mine work and operate successfully. Without all of these elements, the mine wouldn't be operational.

I work in the credit department and the number one department that we have opposition with is the sales department. I don’t know if it could be described as a cultural difference as much as a motivational opposition. However, there is definitely a different mindset and goal between the two departments. The main motivation of sales is obviously to sell and ours is to make sure the customers pay for the products that were sold to them. When customers do not pay, we sometimes make the selling more difficult because we have to put a hold on orders and this angers sales. While we understand that sales contribute greatly to our salaries and job security, a sales is only good if the money follows. Salespeople do not like when they make a sale but we do not allow it to ship.

I feel if the sales reps would get more involved in the financial end of the relationship, they could head off problems before they become problems. Sometimes they are totally unaware there is a problem until a hold is placed. Then they can get hostile because they just made a sale that can’t go out. I have worked in credit for many years and what I have learned is money is a motivator. One company I worked for did not pay a commission until the product was paid for. Talk about motivation for sales to get involved! They were given monthly statuses of their accounts and they could then be proactive with communicating with their buyers and the buyers could communicate with accounts payable and get things moving to get paid. Another way to improve would be for our department to be in better communication with sales. When we see a customer falling behind, we could alert the rep ahead of time so there would be no surprises. I am new to this company but as I get more familiar with their procedures, I plan to make recommendations to make the process smoother on both ends and improve relations between the sales departments and the credit department.

“The data dictionary is a directory or database that contains data about the data elements in the systems of an organization, also referred to as metadata (“data about data”). Maintaining the data dictionary is an important way that an organization’s IT department does its part for data stewardship” (Balgrosky, 2015). Knowing which data elements exist in all the various systems, where the data elements are located in those systems’ databases, what the data elements’ structures are, and other key “data about data” is essential to being able to manage, combine, transmit, and accurately steward data in an organization. Otherwise, confusion and error prevail.

Data modeling is the process of determining the users’ information needs and identifying relationships among the data. “The model should be based on the organization’s strategic plan and should identify the data elements to be collected and the relationship between them” (Sayles, 2018). It contains all of the entities appropriate for the healthcare facility and shows the technical database structure to be used in the database.

” A data warehouse is a database that makes it possible to access data from multiple databases and combine the results into a single query and reporting interface” (Sayles, 2018). Like the data repository, it stores data from many different systems, and it includes historical and current information. Data warehouses hold an abundance of data from many different source systems and are designed for specific types of analyses, such as patient care or business

Data dictionary is where information is being stored such as the contents of information, data information of the owner, the format of the information, and how the structure of the data dictionary is organized. Data dictionary is useful because it helps users with database and helps users understand and develop are structure. Data modeling is a technique which will mode or format certain techniques. Data modeling has a software engineering process which also helps businesses such as a hospital or a medical facility to support the formatting and the information process techniques.

Data warehousing is also known as an enterprise data warehouse. Data warehousing is all the information regarding the reporting of the database and data analysis. Data warehousing is involved with the metadata, summary data, and raw data. Additionally, data dictionary, data modeling, and data warehousing all operate at a system that involves helping a business or facilities.
