For this assignment you are asked to demonstrate your understanding of Motivational Interviewing (MI). Please write a 3-4 pages paper, to which you will add an “interview”:

• Create an interview with an imaginary client. It should be long enough to include at least 20 responses by you, the counselor. As you type the “session”, number YOUR lines, not the “client’s”.
• Below are 10 MI concepts. You are to design your counseling responses to your client, so that you are able to demonstrate your use of these concepts; For example, you may plan on your statement to the client in response #10 to show your use of the Reframing (one MI concept).
• The 10 concepts below can be found in Miller and Rollnick’s text.
• Your paper is to start with a brief scholarly introduction (no longer than half a page) about Motivational Interviewing. Then, for each concept separately (for a total of 10) indicate SPECIFICALLY what lines in your “session” demonstrate your use of the concept. Explain why you chose to use it at that point, what you expected to happen as a result, and whether or not the anticipated client response occurred. You may certainly build in client responses that suggest unexpected responses.
