Introduction

Every supervisor needs to develop his or her skills at interviewing and hiring employees. Often, supervisors are also asked to develop the job descriptions. The descriptions often portrays specific job duties, working conditions, and overall responsibilities.

The matrix organization structure combines the advantages of functional specialization with the focus and accountability of product departmentalization. It enhances coordination among specialists and increases the ability to complete projects with greater efficiency.

The job description states what the jobholder does, how, and why the job is done. It provides a formal document that describes what the employee is supposed to be doing, thereby becoming the standard against which actual performance is measured. It is instrumental in performance appraisal, wage adjustment, feedback, and need-for-training decisions.

Instructions

Assume that you been promoted at your work, and that it is your job to hire the replacement for your current job. Write a current job description for the position you will be vacating. Include the job title, department, wage, job statement, job duties, how the job is done, and why it is done. Begin the process by making a list of all the specific tasks you were responsible for. In addition, prepare seven to eight interview questions you want to ask all applicants for the job.
