• Offer an additional situation in which using a resource that is not peer-reviewed would be acceptable.Inthe library it is difficult to find peer review article, especiallywhen you search a sort title such as “Civil Laws”. Although there is anoption on the Walden University Library website to select rather youwant to search only peer review articles, it seems to give you articlesthat don’t coincide with the topic you’re looking for. Matt states thatscholarly articles can come in all shapes and sizes depending on thesubject being covered and the type of research being performed. Forexample, a scholarly article by an expert in the Humanities will writewhat is called a literature review, wherein they discuss a work of art(book, painting, etc …) and their research will be based off of whatprevious experts have written about that piece. However, a scholarlyarticle by an expert in a Science field may write about an experimentthey have performed, and discuss their results and how it relates toprevious research (Matt, 2011). The article I choose which is consideredan academic journal title is “Diversity, disparate impact, anddiscrimination pursuant to Title VII of US civil rights laws”. Thisparticular article proved to be a peer reviewed article based on thepurpose, findings and research of the journal. The disadvantages of peerreview writings is that peer reviewers have not got an easy jobspotting conflicts of interest, such as the source of a researcher’sfunding, only that the research was followed to acceptable protocols(Shuttleworth, 2018). According to Shuttleworth there are no gradingsystems about the quality of the peer review. Different journals havedifferent standards, and there is no way to know the expertise andquality of the reviewers or editor. In the past, less reputable journalsgenerally had a smaller readership, but the internet has made them justas likely to be accessed and used. Shuttleworth also states that theadvantages of peer reviews is that peer reviewing allows a diversity ofopinions to be brought to the table, theoretically removing any personalbiases and pre-set ideas from the equation. The peer review processstops a lot of substandard and poor science from reaching publication.In addition, the reviewers are generally experts in their field, wellacquainted with the latest developments.
