After reviewing the self-assessment my scores are: Communication-25, Attitude/Behavior-30, Image-4 and Business Practices-20. All of the scores fell within normal standards except for the Communication tab. Looking at the communication tab, two areas that I feel I should work on are my use of profanity and coming to work to make friends. I like most others that I work with, we sometimes use profane language. I use it when I mess up on something on rare occasions, I do not feel like it is a problem because I seldom curse but it is unprofessional to use such language in the work place. The other area I scored a 2 next to coming to work to make friends and finding relationships, now I have never came to work for either but my answer was seldom because I have made friends in every job I've had. I think making at least some acquaintances is a good way to build morality within the workplace. Stopping the profane language will help me be a better professional so that one day I will not slip up and say anything wrong in front of upper management.

Hello everyone,

My scores were as follows; communication: 18; attitude: 28; Image: 4; Business practice: 18.

The two areas I feel I need to improve the most are attitude and communication. However, I am going on 14 years in the Army, and some common acceptable practices in my workplace would not be acceptable in the civilian workplace; therefore, I feel they are the most important for when I retire from the military and start my second career.

Attitude, I feel sometimes it is acceptable to interrupt others if they’re uninformed or unaware of a situation. My time is valuable, and I think if you arrive uninformed you deserve to be cut off; prepare yourself, present well informed, and relevant information to the group. I also scored low in this area due to paying close attention to what is happening in the workplace; in the military, this is my business I need to stay well informed of what is going on in my Soldiers lives, and what is happening in a rapidly changing daily environment. In a civilian setting, I would prefer not hearing others drama or company rumors.

Communication, body language and respecting personal space; I often do stand close while addressing issues, this is when I do this most often, I maintain a dominant posture over my subordinates. In the civilian setting, I would keep an appropriate standoff based on nonverbal signals received from the recipient. I also feel professional jargon is acceptable in the workplace, I use acronyms often, as the military is big on them; I also understand communicating correctly to an audience that would not recognize the professional jargon.

Health Informatics is the use of information systems and technology to redesign, improve, and recreate the way work is done in disciplines such as the practice of medicine, nursing, medical imaging and public health. (Balgrosky, J.A 2015). Health Informatics is the building blocks of all advanced uses of data and information that is computerized the workflow for health informatics, data analytics and outcome analysis, research and public health data surveillance, and predictive modeling techniques. (Balgrosky, J.A 2015). With the way technology is advancing today medical informatics is rapidly changing worldwide. Health Informatics is sometimes known as healthcare informatics, which has grown as an evolving science with the expansion of electronic health records (EHR) and health data analytics systems. With the establishment of health data exchange standards such as HL7 (health level 7) and FHIR (Fast Health Interoperability Resources). Poor EHR system design and improper use can cause EHR-related errors that jeopardize the integrity of the information in the EHR, leading to errors that endanger patient safety or decrease the quality of care. These unintended consequences also may increase fraud and abuse and can have serious legal implications.

Dr. Sweet and Classmates,

Medical Informatics is defined as a theory practice of managing data information and knowledge of using appropriate information and communication technologies in order to improve healthcare processes in decision making to be able to achieve a better health of individuals, population, communities and society as a whole.

Medical Informatics is definitely important in all aspect of healthcare settings. The general philosophy affiliated with the idea include the use of standardized informational science to provide better health care for patients. The overall goal of health informatics is to streamline processes and provide more efficient and planned treatments for patients by biomedical researchers, clinicians, dentists, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and public health officials.
