My idea of a “healthy community” is a community where illness does not have to be absent, but rather a community where people share a common goal, are active participants in society and lead productive lives. Some examples of what would define my idea of a healthy community are a safe environment, access to preventative health care services and screenings, education on health promotion that is easy and accessible and healthier supermarkets. Some characteristics a healthy community has are ideas, actions, and solutions derived from coalitions of diverse groups, frequent self-evaluation that is part of the process, which is the focus.

A variety of techniques, documents, and other resources would have to be implemented to help make a healthy community. If a person’s idea of a healthy community does not equal to his or her belief then in order to begin to achieve the goal of improving health, a community must develop a strategy. That strategy, to be successful, must be supported by many individuals who are working together (Matthew Guidry, 2001). In order for a strategy to become effective, a cohesive plan should be devised with attainable goals within a community. Likewise individuals that are strong, motivated, honest and ambitious should also be should carry out the plan
