Module 4 of ProEthica focused on the topic of “The Professional Educator and the School.” Discuss how the module addressed how educators promote effective and appropriate relationships and interactions with members of the school community while maintaining professional boundaries in and outside of the school building. How was this illustrated in the scenario? What were some of your own decisions and thoughts throughout the scenario? What biblical principles apply, if any?

The module discussed our responsibilities as educators to look out for the safety and welfare of all of our students regardless of the norms and what might be deemed acceptable by our other colleagues and parents. In the module, Ms. Gonzalez was a teacher that had moved to a new school and was faced with the ethical dilemma of turning a blind eye to Mr. Bolden's inappropriate treatment of students or doing something about it. Ms. Gonzalez ultimately made the correct decision and expressed her concerns in the most ethical manner to her school administrator. What Ms. Gonzalez did had to be an extremely difficult decision to make, especially being new to the school. Ultimately it is the educator's duty to abide by the rules as stated in the Model Code of Ethics for Educators. The MCEE clearly states that educators must establish and maintain a school environment that ensures that children will be protected emotionally, intellectually, physically, and sexually.

When I watched the video interview of the young student who had been mistreated by the "Bulldog" it made me angry and I thought to myself that I would never let that happen to a child in a school in which I was employed. "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40, New International Version).
