IT261-5: Assess the desktop operating system’s ability to access wireless networks

Assignment Instructions:

In Part 1 of this Assignment, you will complete the steps listed under “In Someone Else’s Home or Office” in Chapter 36 of your text to allow file sharing with another user. You will create a new user account (Read Chapter 3 “Setting Up User Accounts”).

1. Take a screenshot of the Advanced Sharing settings capturing the “Turn on password-protected sharing here” radio button.
2. Take a screenshot of the newly created user account.
3. Take a screenshot of the shared folder in the File Sharing window.
4. Answer the pros and cons of setting up sharing files and folders. Describe two scenarios in which you can make your computer available over the network to other people.

In Part 2 you will be changing the security information of an existing wireless connection.

NOTE: You may need to use your local machine if this part cannot be accomplished in the VM.

Follow the steps under “Changing Wireless Settings” in Chapter 36. Change the security type and security key of the wireless adapter. Take a screenshot of the Security tab.

Write the steps in a bullet form for finding available wireless networks in your area.
