2..(Respond back to question between110-125 words) We know that financial statements are composed of numerical data compiled so that the overall financial health of a business can be determined. When we look closer at the data, different types of analysis can be performed to give a reviewer a more specific indication of how well a business is performing. The tools that are used are vertical and horizontal analysis, and financial ratios.
What types of financial ratios are used to analyze financial performance? Are some more important than others? Why? Which ratios are important to creditors, investors, and managers? Why?

4. (Respond back to question between 110-125 words)You're right that often adjusting entries are made to capture missing items, or to correct mistakes. I thought I would present a common adjusting entry that I make monthly, if required, in the nursing home.
After a month is complete, revenue is calculated based upon census. Each resident in the facility is charged for each day. The example is for a Medicaid pending patient. Let's say a patient has been private pay for several months, then applies for Medicaid but Medicaid has not yet approved the patient. We call this category Medicaid pending. During the pending time period, we book the revenue at the private pay rate. Once Medicaid approves the patient, if they go retroactive which they generally do unless the person isn't qualified, then the rate that was booked at the private rate must be adjusted to the Medicaid rate. So there would be an adjusting entry to either debit or credit accounts receivable (A/R), and then debit or credit the revenue account. Usually the private pay rate exceeds the Medicaid rate, so the entry would be a debit to revenue and a credit to A/R since the original revenue would have been booked at a higher rate.
All: Can you think of other circumstances that a health care facility would need to adjust revenue and A/R? Please discuss.
5 (Respond back to question between 110-125 words) .In Chapter Two the intangible asset Goodwill is presented. Goodwill is something that you can't touch or hold, but is of value to a company. Goodwill can only be generated when one company purchases another company at greater than the fair market value. Goodwill can stand for many things, one of which might be the reputation that a longstanding company has earned so when that company sells at greater than fair market value, the buyer is now the recipient of the reputation that the seller had earned through years of service. I found an informative video I'd like to share relative to the asset account Goodwill. Please view it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoZpDwoyEJ8
You will be able to see print of the audio by clicking the closed caption icon on the right hand side of the bottom bar underneath the video screen.
Class: What other examples of Goodwill can you provide, and what may you have seen that was actual Goodwill that you can share with us? I look forward to your discussion.
6 (Respond back to question between 110-125 words).Service companies deliver "service" for a price. /What we "sell" in healthcare can't be put in a bag and carried off. So let's think about service in this way: our staff/employees deliver the services, so we are essentially selling our talents, education, experience, compassion, i.e. everything that we as individuals bring to the table. We are providing the resource, health care, that people seek.
So, it's important that employees are happy and feel good in their work environment. Employees functioning at their optimal level is so important in the service industry. I'd like you all to take a look at this you tube video from Vanderbilt Hospital, where higher employee satisfaction was obtained by implementing a very creative solution. Not only did employees feel better, but so did their patients and families in the ER. Please take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tDIDpscnLw

The emergency room workers certainly are "service" employees. And very specialized at that. Someone, or perhaps a team of employees, did a good job gaining success in their attempt to increase employee satisfaction with a non-traditional approach.
Class: what did you think about the content of the video? What thing(s) did you notice about customer service as you watched the video?
