Theresa and Mike would like to have a values-driven company. This happens from a top-down management style. Focusing on values-driven culture has many added benefits. It can increase employee performance levels, offer improved services, reduce employee turn-overs, and help to add long-term sustainability. However, values-driven culture, doesn't stop with employees and management, it can also help to build and develop a positive social impact on the local community (Legacy Supply Chain Management, 2018).

The development and enforcement of ethical decision making starts from the top down and can be completed in a few steps. The first is for organizational leaders to be a positive and visible role model. Secondly, management must communicate what values and ethics are expected from all employees. Third, provide ethics training to all employees and make it part of annual training to reinforce ethical decision making. Fourth, make ethical behaviors front and center, award ethical choices and punish unethical acts. Lastly, provide a safe way for employees to discuss ethical dilemmas and a way for them to report unethical choices without fear of reprimand (Nguyen, 2011).

The foundation for ethical decision making is based on balance and choice. If you are the only person who will gain from a decision then you need to rethink it using organizational ethics. If everyone is doing it does it make it right? Do the benefits of a decision outweigh the burden? If these questions can be asked an answered without causing harm then you can be assured that your decision is based ethically (Chmielowski, 2004).

Theresa and Mike need to become a united force. They need to know and understand exactly what organizational standards they have and be steadfast in their decisions. The value-driven culture needs to be based on ethical standards. Organizational ethics need to be in the forefront of all of the choices they make. When they lead with ethically based choices, the rest of the organization will see this and it will become organizational culture. When ethics training is part of the training process all employees know what is expected and have guidelines that they can follow to make ethical choices. When Theresa and Mike hold all employees to the same ethical standards it will reinforce the organizational culture that they expect. When employees know that they are safe in reporting unethical decisions they are more likely to report unethical behavior. When Theresa and Mike use top-down management it will reinforce the fact that they are a united force.

Overall in using top-down management style, they are showing the organization what they want, and what they expect, When they use ethics training aligned with their values it helps to reinforce the values that they see as most important.
