Question Description
Annotated Bibliography/Reference List
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations of reputable sources (e.g., articles and videos on the web) related to your topic. A citation and a brief annotation should be provided for each source, and these entries should include an article or video summary, as well as a discussion of the relevance, accuracy, currency, and quality of the information. The relevant and reputable sources you select for your topic and included in your Annotated Bibliography should be formatted according to APA guidelines – 6th edition (i.e., an annotated “Reference List”).
For this assignment, I'm looking for you to build on your topic from the Infographic assignment by fleshing it out with five additional sources. These sources should be a mix of news and scholarly items and should include at least one video as a source.
NOTE: The annotated bibliography is worth 100 points and will be graded based on the Annotated Bibliography Rubric.
ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS:
you need research and identify 5 relevant and reputable information sources (a mix of articles and videos) about your selected topic to include in the Annotated Bibliography.
The first page of your Annotated Bibliography should begin with your title referencing your topic as well as your name. If you feel you're shifting or refocusing your topic a bit from the Infographic, please provide a brief paragraph discussing the nature of these changes. Otherwise, the assumption will be that the topic is the same as it was for the Infographic.
THE ANNOTATIONS:
Each of the 5 information sources (a mix of news-related articles and videos along with scholarly articles – NO online encyclopedia entries) are to include the following in each bibliographic annotation:
- Citation formatted according to APA (6th edition) style. (Include the URL link to the information source – article or video)
- Annotation with full bibliographic information containing the following:
- Summary of the article (or video) that includes a description of the article or video. (Note: the summary must be "paraphrased" in your own words – NO DIRECT QUOTES from the information source!)
- Relevance of information source (How is the information source – article or video – directly relevant to your activism category and event? Why did you choose this source? Support how this source is relevant.)
- Accuracy and currency of information source (Is the information in the source accurate and up-to-date? Is the source of information credible on this topic?)
- Quality of the information (Is the information source objective and reliable?)
Each annotation is at least 5-7 sentences in length.
Sample Annotated Bibliography Entry following APA style:
Goh, M. (2012, July 15). Red Cross declares civil war in Syria. Retrieved from http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2012/07/15/…
This article will be used to address the (7) Major Historical Event: Human Impact category/topic for my hashtag activism digital story. In July 2012, the Red Cross announced that the level of violence in Syria was to be categorized as a civil war. The importance of this announcement is that international humanitarian law has been enacted throughout the region and applied to everyone including governmental and rebel forces. NPR, who published the article, is a trusted news outlet; and the article points to several other sources to support its claims. This indicates that the information is accurate. While the article was published four years ago on the NPR website, which may make it seem dated, it is important to note that this is the time when the described events were taking place in Syria, and the violence impacting the people in that region continues today.
