Assignment Instructions 1:

In this Assignment you will submit a document that demonstrates that you have installed and configured a virtualization software, and downloaded (or already have installed) Windows 10 operating system. Use the Snipping Tool™ program, or any other appropriate screen capture program, to capture all of the screen shots. For instructions on how to use the Snipping Tool, please watch the media file on “Submitting screenshots of Assignments using the Snipping Tool” under Course Resources in the Multimedia area.

Review the following steps needed to complete this Assignment. When you have completed the Assignment submit your document to the unit Dropbox.

1. Take a screen capture of your current host operating system.
2. Take a screen capture of the amount of memory that is available in your computer system. (Note: you will need this information for the Unit 2 Assignment)
3. Begin the download of Windows 10 operating system (.iso image) into your computer system.

Note: if your current computer’s OS is Windows 10, then proceed to step 4.

1. Take a screen capture of the location (complete path) of the .iso image of Windows 10 in your computer system.
2. Begin the installation of the virtualization software (Virtual Machine) VMware or VirtualBox.
3. Follow the installation steps of the virtualization software taking three screen captures of the installation and one last screenshot at the end of the installation of the Start or Welcome Screen.
4. Explain any parts of the installation or download processes that were confusing or caused problems.
5. Research and compose in no less than 250 words the purposes and uses of virtualization software. Make sure to include the reference(s) and citation(s) following APA.
6. Follow the installation steps of the virtualization software taking three screen captures of the installation and one last screenshot at the end of the installation of the Start or Welcome Screen.
7. Explain any parts of the installation or download processes that were confusing or caused problems.
8. Research and compose in no less than 250 words the purposes and uses of virtualization software. Make sure to include the reference(s) and citation(s) following APA.

Assignment Instructions 2:

For this Assignment, you will submit a document demonstrating that you have installed Windows 10 in a virtualized environment and configured several options.

Before beginning the Assignment, please note:

• Except as noted, all tasks must be performed in the Virtual Machine.
• Make sure to display the name of your Virtual Machine (First Name Initial + Last Name + name of the virtual machine, e.g., JDoeIT261) at the top of each screenshot (where applicable)
• Assignments not displaying the name of your Virtual Machine at the top of each screenshot (where applicable) will not be accepted.
• Make sure to display the name of your Virtual Machine (First Name Initial + Last Name + name of the virtual machine, e.g., JDoeIT261) at the top of each screenshot (where applicable). Write a brief caption identifying each screenshot and identify all questions.
• Students using VirtualBox who are still having issues with USB settings might need to download the VM VirtualBox Extension Pack. Virtual Box. Retreived from http://www.complete–concrete–concise.com/

• In order to complete step 4 below, you will need to already have configured, from Unit 1, the Virtual Machine for allowing sharing folders with the local (host) machine. Instructions are located in Course Documents under the file name “Enabling Shared Folders in VMware” or “Enabling Shared Folders in VM VirtualBox.”
• Label each screenshot

Begin the installation and configuration of Windows 10 desktop operating system (from the .iso file) in your Virtual Machine (VM). Follow the instructions in the Learning Activity

1. Follow the installation steps. Take three different screenshots of the Windows Setup screens, and the Windows 10 Startup window. Find out how much memory you now have available in your local computer and take a screenshot. Compare the amount of memory before (pre-installation— from Unit 1 Assignment) and after the installation process and explain the variance.
2. Begin the process of creating the password reset disk in your VM. Take screenshots of the VM startup screen; Welcome to the Forgotten Password Wizard dialog; and Completing the Forgotten Password Wizard dialog. In your VM’s File Explorer, locate the password reset disk and take a screenshot showing the path of the password reset disk and the usekey.psw file. Explain the steps that you need to take to regain access to your account if you forget your password.

1. Add a Picture Password to your Account and take a screenshot. Follow the instructions in Course Documents for enabling Shared Folders in your VM. Select the folder in your local (host) machine containing the picture that you would like to use as your Picture Password. Begin the process of adding a Picture Password by following the instructions in Chapter 9 of your eBook “Creating a Picture Password.” Take screenshots of the “Create a picture password” dialog. Restart the VM and in the new Windows’ logon screen take a screenshot displaying the selected picture and credentials.

1. Create an account for a new user. Take a screen capture of the changes showing the Administrator and the new user. Write a brief description of two different types of user accounts.
2. Choose how updates get installed. Take a screenshot showing the installation screen “Update and Security.” Check for updates and choose to download and install them. Take a screenshot showing the updates. Set the automatic maintenance schedule for 11:00 p.m. Take a screenshot showing the scheduled time.
3. Click on a Start screen tile. Take a screenshot of the tiles showing the commands (applications) related to each tile. Briefly describe the function of one tile. Search for the Device and Printers that are connected in your VM and take a screen shot. Double-click on each device and take a screenshot of the Properties. See p. 646-647 in your text. Note: depending on your browser, the page number may be slightly different.

Save the document as IT261_YourName_Unit_2 Assignment and submit it to the appropriate Dropbox for Unit 2.
