A subjective approach to the meaning of life is the approach that is most defensible. It seems impossible to find rational evidence for the idea of an objective meaning to life that applies to all human beings. In regards to objectivity in general, it seems philosophically difficult to reach a rational and acceptable conclusion. However, a subjective view to the meaning of life depends solely on the individual. If the meaning of life for me is to commit my existence to God and devote my time to advancing my faith, then that is how I find my life to be purposeful and meaningful. A close friend of mine reminded me once that I know what salvation looks like for me, but I cannot speak for those around me. My salvation looks different from the salvation of others. This idea applies to the meaning of one's life as well. I am able to subjectively define the meaning of my life, but I cannot say what it looks like for my sister to have meaning in her life. Humans as a whole were give the capacity to choose how to live their lives. This free will was no accident, and an objective view of life's meaning implies that individuals have little choice. The subjective view to the meaning of life not only allows for human capacity to be reached in its fullest, but it also allows us to determine almost factually whether or not we are living lives of meaning.
