Assignment Instructions:

Prepare a minimum 1000 word memorandum (no title page, abstract, or reference page is required). Use the memorandum template provided to you for this assignment.

For this assignment, you are to play the role of MDPD Director Melanie Duncan. You have been assigned the task of creating the organizational structure for the planning and execution of the security and public safety component of the DRNC special event. Your memorandum should be addressed to U.S. Secret Service Assistant Special Agent in-Charge (ASAC) Samantha Salerno, who has been appointed as the Lead Federal Coordinator and Chairperson of the DRNC Security Subcommittee.

At a minimum, your memo must include the following:

• An organizational chart that illustrates the structure of the public safety component of the DRNC
• The org chart must abide by the principles of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS)
• The organizational structure that you construct should take into account all claimant stakeholders, and it should address the concerns related to all the influencer
• The organizational structure must specifically identify the Unified Command elements including:
  • JOC (Joint Operations Center)
  • JIC (Joint Information Center)
  • IOC (Intelligence Operations Center)
• A narrative that clearly describes the organizational structure that you have devised, explaining your rationale for your decisions.

Your report is important because it forms the basis for the organization and planning for the entire DRNC event. A properly formulated organizational structure will increase the likelihood of inter-agency cooperation and coordination. A poorly constructed organizational structure will likely increase uncertainty and chaos, and it could create unnecessary conflict. Everything is in the attachment.
